***Flu Season***Flu Season has approached us. I encourage ALL children to get the flu shot if they can. Please if you have any questions as to if your child should attend school. I've got a list from the The Children's Hospital & CDC of different things as to when to keep your child home with you.  Just remember that a lot illnesses are contagious before symptoms appear, including the actual Flu. Temperature over 100 degrees F is considered a fever according to the CDC. Please follow all CDPHE and facility guidelines for all illnesses.

***Yearly Rate Increase***
Reminder that everyone's rate will increase on January 1, 2023 as per signed contracts. It will be $1/day/child.

Please refer to the Universal Preschool Policy – If facility chooses to participate at that time & depending on spaces for that year.

Guidance/Consent/Safe Touch

It is the policy of Angel Hugs Daycare to inform parents of the nature and type of routine physical contact their child(ren) will experience while in my care. There is NO physical punishment, emotional harm, or humiliation in my childcare. It is provider's belief and practice that children need nurturing, adult physical contact for their care, and healthy development. This contact can be described in four ways:

  1. Nurturing: This includes hugs and non-intimate kisses, hand holding, gentle tickling, caring, and cuddling. This type of contact is never made against the expressed wishes of the children.
  2. Safety and Guidance: This includes restraining children from harmful situations, separating physically conflicting children, directing children by gently leading or guiding them and administering 1st aid to injuries.
  3. Hygienic: This includes face and hand washing, assisting with bathroom duties (as appropriate to the age of the child), diaper changes, examining rashes or unusual marks, nose blowing and assisting with or conducting necessary clothing changes. When more than 1 person is in the bathroom, the door must remain open. Provider has a right at any given time to enter into the bathroom/any part of the house for health, safety, and protection of a child.
  4. Safe Talk: There is always a “rolling consent” between provider and child with Safe Touch with nurturing and hygiene. Words that will be use on a daily bases here will be the correct use of names of body parts: anus, penis, scrotum, vagina, labia majora, labia minora.

It is also my belief that it is normal and healthy for children to express affection with their peers. This includes hugs and non-intimate kisses and handholding. This type of contact is never made against the expressed wishes of the children. This is taught as part of the “rolling consent” to all children in care.

***RESOURCE LIST***
The list of resources has been added to Angel Hugs Daycare Facebook Page, in order for parents to have access to this information at all times. We never know what life throws at us. This list of resources has numbers for food banks, emergency housing, hospitals, and many other helpful things parents may need.

***NEW Illness Policy & Check-up***
There is a NEW STRICTLY ENFORCED ILLNESS POLICY CDC requires us to follow: NO sneezing, coughing, and fevered children. If your child comes down with an illness, we will be following the CDPHE guidelines that are current for that time.

Temperature over 100 degrees F is considered a fever according to the CDC. For all other illnesses I will be following The Children's Hospital & CDC as to when to keep your child home with you. Just remember that a lot of illnesses are contagious before symptoms appear, including the actual Flu, COVID, and many, many others.

***Curriculum***
This year we have added in music lessons once a week to enhance our learning in all the learning domains, such as literacy and language, math, physical, logic and reason, and many of the growing areas. This is at no extra charge.

In order to maintain a high quality early childcare education program, I will be using my own curriculum, mixed with others, all which aligns with Colorado Early Learning and Developmental Guidelines. This curriculum is Child-led and Play-based (intentional teaching, but child-led ideas) all while learning ALL the skills that is needed to enter into Colorado's Kindergarten programs. I am so excited to launch this.

I am including an article from the National Association for the Education of Young Children, along with web link resources, that talks about play and play-based early childcare education and how this is so beneficial for children birth to 6 years old. Please take some time to read this. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me questions.
